Use what works for you.Notion and Evernote are two very different tools with very similar goals. You can still support the community in other ways. TL DR it's a privacy minded option for managing notes and the like across devices, you don't NEED to use it just because it's recommended. I'm sure you could get good enough functionality using Vim extensions and a privacy minded sync software such as Syncthing, but I'm happy to support the developers with my money for something that adds value for me and frees up time doing things that matter to me instead of managing notes across all my devices and making sure everything is properly synced and up to date.

Point is that the software is an option for syncing notes across platforms and it doesn't matter if I'm using my windows work computer, my phone, or my Linux computers at home. Is that a use case that works for you? Maybe, maybe not. It's nice too that if I need to do work from home I can just use my home computer and it's just a matter of tagging the notes accordingly. Basically, I see it as a tool, and it is a tool that fits well with my workflow and makes it easy for me to stick to a routine for recordkeeping. I use it everyday for work to-do lists, project tracking, and the like. I feel not only more organized, and with more privacy, but also more efficient taking notes than with Evernote. but since I had to change my behavior and note taking approach anyways, today I don’t use any Extension based editor. I actually paid for it because I felt the extensions will allow me to format notes closer to Evernote. Syncing is really really fast (near real-time for me).

But now I write much faster and have much better organization AND can use it for both work and home. I even used to have voice recordings in Evernote. I dropped Evernote for SN, but have had to adapt my way of taking notes: no embedded images, no bullet points, no embedded URL links.

SN is about privacy and encrypted simple text file notes, across any platform, and fast sync. It doesn’t have the same philosophy or feature set. If you are coming from Evernote and you seek a privacy centric encrypted alternative with 80% of the features, the SN is a hard sell.
